Not usually a fan of chains, but Tommy B's is an exception.  I've been to a couple of their restaurants and the experience has always been good.  The "toes in the sand " lounge on the roof is great for the ambience.

The Mahi-mahi Tacos are amazing... partly because they come with "dessert" - fried plantains with a coconut pineapple cream sauce that is killer.

We were a party of four
Plenty of tables were available. When I asKed to be seated at a table with four chairs as opposed to a table with a couch type bench seat and two chairs, I was told the seating I had requested were reserved
Those tables were still open when we finished dinner
Cocktails and dinner were more than fine
Waitress was knowledgeable about the menu

This place is a total gem! I discovered it one year after being lured into the Tommy Bahama store by a sundress in the windows to my surprise, there is a restaurant above it! To order:
    Steak Pizza
    Salad (very fresh)
Macadamia Nut Crusted Goat Cheese = a MUST += Life
Oh..and the catch of the day isn't too bad either

Like others, I was wondering how a clothing store would serve as a restaurant and I was not disappointed. Loved this place. I had the special grilled marlin and crab cake and husband had the opa fish. Both meals were so good.

We made reservations but since this is outdoor seating and it was rather overcast, it probably wasn't quite as busy as usual, although it was still quite busy. We got a table right on the 3rd floor balcony. It ended up being a lovely night outdoor dinner.

Service was great and upon finishing our meal, we got 2 postcards to send home (postage on TB). I really liked the 3rd floor lounge with fireplace and white sand floor.

I know most people would already scoff at the idea of going to a clothing store to eat...But to expect an actually high-quality dining experience would be totally laughable.  If you aren't willing to think out of the box, then life will always be kind of square and bland.  So drop what you know about restaurants (at least when you're in Waikiki) and force yourself to head to Tommy Bahama's.  Why?  Because this place seriously rocks.  The restaurant sits upstairs above the retail store.  Once you get up there, you are greeted with an airy, tropically tasteful space.  Classy but not stuffy, just the way I like it.  You can be seated inside in the main dining area or on a nice day, you can have an al fresco experience upstairs on their rooftop deck.  We've done both and you really can't go wrong.

Start your meal off with some drinks.  They make 'em strong but totally tasty.  A couple faves are the Pineapple Paradisio and Key Lime Martini.  Creamy, smooth, tropical and stealthily boozy...nice!  Foodwise, there are essentially no wrong choices here.  Seriously everything we've tried is so good.  Being in Hawaii, the fish options seems to particularly excel.  From the fish tacos to the macadamia nut crusted fresh catch of the day, everything is super ono.  Apps (especially the goat cheese) and entrees are so good here that is makes it hard to prevent overstuffing yourself.  Ideally you can exercise a little bit of self-control...because you definitely don't want to miss out on the well-prepared decadent desserts here.

If everything I've mentioned so far is not convincing enough, the final thing to perfect your experience at TB's is the top-notch service.  We make it a point to routinely hit up the restaurant for both lunch and dinner.  Regardless of the time we go, the waitstaff has always been amazing.  We just had dinner there last night and our waiter Tyler was totally on-point from start to finish.  Our kids also appreciated how he went out of his way to make sure they weren't left out of the amazing dining experience.  That just made our meal that much special.

Do yourself a huge favor and throw whatever negative connotations you have about a retail clothing-owned restaurant and check out Tommy Bahama's when you are in Honolulu!  You're welcome very much :)
